Streatham Communities Hub

People at SDJThis project plans to renovate and extend Woodlawns, a Victorian villa and derelict outbuilding in a conservation area in Streatham, South London, to create a communities hub with more flexible and fit-for-purpose space for a variety of community meeting and private hire purposes.

This development will include additional office space available for hire, meeting rooms and walk in showering facilities to assist  the partnership to address the needs of the borough’s older population who have identified a need for a wider range of health, social and recreational activities in a relaxed, comfortable and informal atmosphere.

The coach house will provide an entry and reception point for the building, removing the mental and physical barriers currently faced by older people with a lack of confidence to entering services. The centre will provide information and advice on benefits, employment, education and training, leisure and transport, as well as a unique venue in the area for private functions such as weddings and corporate events. The main beneficiaries will be older people in the London Borough of Lambeth.

Phase I of our redevelopment, the Sensory Garden Annexe, funded by the Big Lottery Fund People's Millions Programme, is now complete and is available for use not only by our service users but also for hire for a range of activities and events.

Big Lottery Fund

The club has recently received over one million pounds in grant aid for two projects. In 2007 with the encouragement of local MP Keith Hill the club won an award in an open competition in the People’s Millions Big Lottery Programme for its Sensory Garden Annexe Project.

In 2008 the Club was awarded almost £1 million by the Cabinet Office / Office of the Third Sector Community Assets programme, managed by the Big Lottery Fund, to develop a new Streatham Communities Hub and Carers Hub Lambeth in the old coach house to the front of the main building. This work is due to commence in August 2009.
